Active involvement in the education of competent, committed and critical young medical professionals is one of our priorities. We translate research-led teaching into action in special seminars and courses and above all in the supervision of diploma and doctoral students. We actively contribute to the further development of our curriculum. Through problem-based knowledge transfer along with patient- and value-based competence transfer and a systems approach to patient care, we teach specialist knowledge and practical skills, responsible behavior, a sense of orientation and a willingness to improve.

Research-led teaching

All of our teaching focuses on the human being! Our teaching is oriented to problem solving and based on case studies, and we emphasize acquiring skills in clinical examination and hematology diagnosis. In line with a holistic approach to health care, we teach clinical courses, modules and tracks with colleagues from pathology, radiology and surgery. We convey the basis for modern testing methods including molecular diagnostics and interpretation of their results and introduce symptom-based education. Instructional films such as "Das klinische Leitsymptom – Ihr roter Faden durch Ihr Studium" (available in German only) are currently being developed for our virtual medical campus as a guide and interface between theoretical and clinical education.

Postgraduate training

The wide range of professional development opportunities at the Medical University of Graz is directed at a variety of occupational groups in the fields of medicine, science and research, nursing and health services. Most of the professional development courses can be completed while the participant is regularly employed and provide him/her with a valuable additional qualification.

The Division of Haematology, which includes hemostaseology as well as bone marrow and stem cell transplantation (SCT), is one of the largest hematology divisions in Austria and has been accredited by the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation for years. It offers a variety of top-level postgraduate training programs that include allogeneic SCT with transplantation immunology and adoptive cellular therapy.
